Huskies make mincemeat out of Wapato Wolves
Othello swept a doubleheader with Wapato at home Saturday.
The Huskies made quick work out of the Wolves in the opener blanking their CWAC opponent 19-0 in less than an hour on the diamond. A new 15-run rule now in place calls for the game to be called after three innings are in the books.
Othello scored two in the bottom of the first, and had a chance for a lot more Huskies touching home after loading the bags twice with one out. But an ending inning double-play turned by the Wapato stomped out a big rally.
Othello pushed its lead to 10-0 in the home half of the second on the strength of a bases clearing triple by No. 18 and a 3-run shot over the right-center fence by freshman Ashley Garza — her first ever home run.
Up 17-0 with one out in the bottom of the third, coach Rudy Ochoa, in a show of good sportsmanship, had his Huskies bunting the rest of the way.
Game 2
The second game was a mirror image of the first with Othello dominating on the diamond in a 17-1 win over Wapato. The Huskies pounded out 16 hits in the one-sided contest, and gave up just one to the Wolves.
Othello moves to 4-2 in conference play with the wins and into a temporary tie for third with Quincy. Ellensburg, East Valley and Selah are all knotted a 6-0 at the top of the standings. The Huskies are back on the diamond in Othello April 10 when they host a doubleheader with the Red Devils.
