The world needs us to model Christ

As we look around our nation, it seems like things are getting worse and chaos seems to be running rampant. We can look at school shootings, domestic terrorism and the ensuing blame game of politics and feel like there is no hope for our country. When one turns on the television and sees the media fight over who is right and who is wrong, it’s embarrassing and makes people think that things will never change.
I tend to think differently; perhaps it’s because I’m an optimist, but I feel like God is about to do something great in our nation. Isaiah 62:10 really encourages me. It states, “Go through, go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up, build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples.” (ESV). This scripture tells us that we must be the first ones who go out to prepare the way of salvation for the lost and the confused in our land.
There is no doubt that Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life.” So it stands to reason that if Jesus is the way then as believers, we have to prepare that way and clear it of obstructions. Those obstructions can be addictions, work, family problems and many others, so if we are going to help others get to heaven then we must clear the way so that others can get to Jesus.
Make no mistake about it: this country is in bad shape and needs healing and we have the answer. I think of young people who are hurting so much emotionally that they feel like they have to cut themselves in order to numb that pain. This not only angers me but also drives me to my knees to pray for their deliverance. Let me say this again: as believers Jesus has empowered us to make a difference and to “go through the gates” of addiction and confusion and clear a path for people to find hope, healing and restoration.
My prayer is that the church in America would awaken to her true calling and potential and go out into this nation and show the hurting that Jesus can take all pain and addiction away and give true joy to those who have none. Church, it’s our responsibility to make this path open to those who have no hope.
