Vote 'yes' on Moses Lake levy
It’s no secret our community has experienced pain connected to the bond approved by voters in 2017, but we must set that aside for now, and focus on the upcoming replacement levy. Voting “no” simply to “send a message to the board” will only hurt students.
The levy provides funding for music, security, art, library, transportation, athletics, physical education, technology, transportation and a host of other important programs. Additionally, it provides school resource officers for armed security, which is a partnership with the Moses Lake Police Department.
The current levy costs taxpayers $4.62 per $1000 of assessed value. The new levy, if approved, will cost taxpayers $1.50 per $1000 of assessed value. With recent changes in state laws, school districts get more money through state allocations, thereby reducing the amount of money districts need to collect from local levies.
I urge you to join me in voting “yes” for kids by April 24. If you choose to mail your ballot, please mail it prior to the deadline, as Moses Lake mail is transported to Wenatchee before it is postmarked. This process can take several days, potentially making last-minute ballots invalid.
