Boys soccer roundup: Moses Lake boys soccer falls to Wenatchee
MOSES LAKE — Senior forward Luis Navarette gathered a through ball, outran one defender and fired a right-footed rocket by Moses Lake goalkeeper Michael Villarreal.
It was the exclamation point on a night that belonged to Wenatchee, 4-1.
The Panthers scored three goals in the first half and, other than a quick attack in the opening minutes from Anthony Cortez, controlled possession for the majority of the game.
Conversely, Moses Lake was unable to muster many shots on goal, moving to 0-4 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine and 0-7 overall.
Wenatchee worked the left side of Moses Lake’s defense in the first half. Panthers midfielder Erik Zaldivar won a ball in the air, dribbled up the left sideline and shot low and away past Villarreal in the 15th minute for the game’s first goal.
Less than 10 minutes later, Navarette — working the left side again — played a cross to Jose Camarillo who punched another shot into the net.
Guillermo Calderilla added one more goal in the 31st minute.
Despite the large lead, Wenatchee remained aggressive and saw plenty of open looks throughout the second half. Eventually, Navarette broke free to score in the 64th minute.
Moses Lake was able to avoid a shutout with a goal just before the final whistle. Cortez rebounded his own free kick and shot toward the Wenatchee goal. The saved shot found Erik Shaporda who scored.
