Basin roundup: Warden softball takes two from Royal

ROYAL CITY — Warden stayed perfect in the SCAC East with two wins over Royal 14-2 and 11-1.

Jizelle Pruneda struck out 11 in Game 1. Aaliyah Escamilla was 2-for-2 with four runs scored and five stolen bases. Amanda Contreras also had three hits.

The Cougars broke open the second game with seven runs in the second inning. Leanne Martinez had a two-run double in that lengthy second inning.

Pruneda added seven more strikeouts and Alexia Hernandez was 2-for-3.

Soap Lake 27-23, Bridgeport 0-3

BRIDGEPORT — Soap Lake earned its first two wins of the season in blowout fashion.

Eryn Allen pitched a no-hitter and Soap Lake beat Bridgeport in the first of two games 27-0. Soap Lake scored 23 unanswered runs to complete the sweep 23-3.

In Game 1, Aleah Gilley had three hits and a team-high five RBI. Morgan Evenstad led the Eagles with four hits and added four RBI. Allen struck out 10 in her no-hitter.

Bridgeport scored three runs in the first inning of Game 2 before Soap Lake rallied for 16 in the second. Allen had three hits, three RBI and struck out eight more.

East Valley 8-9, Ephrata 4-5

YAKIMA — Jocelyn Eisen homered twice but Ephrata was swept by East Valley 8-4 and 9-5.

The Tigers opened a 3-1 lead in Game 1 before the Red Devils rallied in the later innings. Eisen was 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer and Crystal Vela was 2-for-3.

Ephrata also led early in the second game, 3-2, before East Valley came back again.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 14-6, Asotin 8-17

RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague split its doubleheader with Asotin, winning the first game 14-8 before losing the next 17-6.

The Broncos totaled 15 hits in the opener, led by Tessa O’Brien’s four. Asotin opened up a 7-0 lead and scored eight runs in the fifth inning of Game 2.

Baseball

Ryan Arredondo tosses no-hitter, Warden splits with Royal

ROYAL CITY — It was a day to remember for Warden starter Ryan Arredondo.

Arredondo struck out 15 and tossed a no-hitter in Warden’s win over Royal 8-0.

Arredondo helped his own cause with two hits and an RBI.

Royal came away with the split, beating Warden 13-3 in the opener. Royal’s Carter Dorsing drove in three runs. JC Worsham and Logan Gilbert added two RBI each.

Othello 4-12, Grandview 0-1

GRANDVIEW — Othello stifled Grandview’s bats for a pair of wins 4-0 and 12-1.

Josh Calzadillas pitched a two-hit complete game in the opener. Valente Garza had two hits and two RBI.

AJ Pruneda ensured Othello’s bats woke up in Game 2 with five RBI and four hits. The Huskies led 8-1 after two innings.

Selah 17-4, Quincy 0-1

SELAH — Quincy’s bats were silenced as Selah won twice 17-0 and 4-1.

Selah starter Reid Rasmussen threw a no-hitter in the opener.

Asotin 6-5, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 0-0

RITZVILLE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague could only muster two hits combined in two losses to Asotin 6-0 and 5-0.

Asotin starter Devin Fry struck out 11 in Game 1. Noah Renzelman followed that performance with nine strikeouts in the night cap.

Patrick Azevedo ties for second at Joe Lenberg Invitational

YAKIMA — West Valley’s Max Turnquist made three birdies on the back nine to separate himself from the field and win the Joe Lenberg Invitational with a 2-under 70.

Othello’s Patrick Azevedo carded 77 to tie with Dylan Bissell of West Valley and Cole Weiderstran of Stanwood for second.

West Valley scored 335 to walk away with the team title.

Ephrata (348) was third, Othello (363) was sixth, Quincy (393) was 11th, Moses Lake was 15th (423) and Royal (444) was 16th.

YAKIMA — Big Bend lost its first NWAC East games at Yakima Valley 5-0 and 14-3.

The Vikings scattered six hits in the opener but could not score. Cody Bank was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Big Bend trailed Yakima Valley 4-3 before the Yaks scored eight runs in the fifth inning of Game 2. Derek Almanza finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
