2 arrested after crashing car at BMX park
MOSES LAKE — Two men are in jail after leading police on a chase that ended at a BMX park in Moses Lake early Wednesday morning.
About 3:30 a.m. Moses Lake police attempted to pull over a 1998 Honda on West Marina Drive, but the driver of the Honda, identified as Randy James, 20, of Moses Lake, refused to pull over. Police pursued the Honda through the lower Peninsula neighborhood and James reportedly crashed through a fence at the Larson Recreation Center and started heading toward the BMX park.
“James tried to navigate the obstacles with his vehicle, doing his best impression of a 13-year-old on a bicycle, but the jumps were no match for the 1998 Honda,” MLPD Capt. Mike Williams said.
James allegedly jumped out of the driver’s side window and attempted to flee the area but was captured by an officer after a short foot pursuit. One of the two passengers in the Honda, identified as Daniel Tudor, 18, of Moses Lake, attempted to run as well but was captured after a short pursuit. The other occupant in the Honda stayed in the car and was released from the scene.
Police reportedly located a gun and ammunition in the Honda, which was impounded pending a search warrant. In addition to the damaged fence, a MLPD patrol vehicle was damaged in the incident.
James and Tudor, who are both convicted felons, were booked into the Grant County Jail for investigation of several charges. James is no stranger to high speed pursuits; he was previously sentenced in connection with an October 2015 incident in which he led deputies on a lengthy chase in a stolen vehicle and ended up barricading himself in a home in the Lakeview community.
