Octavio Martinez De La Fuente
June 6, 1953 – September 14, 2017
Octavio Martinez De La Fuente passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at the Columbia Crest Center in Moses Lake, Wash. He was born June 6, 1953 in McAllen, Texas to Florentino De La Fuente and Beatriz Martinez De La Fuente.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974. His civilian occupation was Power Generator Equipment Operator/Mechanic. He served overseas in Germany and obtained the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged.
Octavio wholeheartedly married Louise De La Fuente March 15, 1975 in Lodi, Calif. They were blessed with five children: Rose Varner, Robert De La Fuente, Rodolfo (Rudy) De La Fuente, Rebecca De La Fuente, and Regina (Gina) De La Fuente. After the passing of their father, Octavio and Louise made the decision to move their family to the state of Washington in 1986.
“Odie” was always a hardworking provider for his family, accepting any job from custodian to truck driver. He successfully owned his own power wash business, Odie’s Mobile Truck Wash. He professionally cleaned various business vehicles and semi trucks. He provided service in Moses Lake, Connell, and Royal City.
“Tavi” enjoyed dancing, yard sales, thrift shopping, and visiting casinos with his beloved best friend, his wife. You could also find the happy couple eating at Bob’s, The Ripple and Tacos El Rey. Along with slot machines he enjoyed playing pull tabs, 21, and poker. Passersby would see him outside his home working on the yard, washing his cars, or repairing his vehicles all while his oldies or Tejano music was playing for the entire neighborhood to enjoy. Family activities were not limited to but included attending live drag races, fishing, barbecuing, camping and traveling to visit family members. He believed in quality family time along with his chihuahua Pepper.
Octavio will be deeply missed by his loved ones but never forgotten. His signature greeting “Howdy” and farewell “I love you” will always be heard in memory and his beloved grandchildren will be reminded of his teasing words “Boo” and “Scooby.”
He is survived by his wife and children, sister Beatriz Gutierrez, brothers Homero De La Fuente and Orlando De La Fuente and grandchildren Joel Martinez, Keanu De La Fuente, Penelope Cervantes, Myah Alvarado, Maci Alvarado, Nahla Oby and Aiyanna Oby.
Octavio is preceded in death by his parents, brother Octavio De La Fuente, sister Juanita De La Fuente Martinez, twin brother Gustavo De La Fuente, brother Ruben De La Fuente, sister Otilia Villarreal and brother Ovidio De La Fuente.
Mass for Octavio will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 200 N. Dale Rd., Moses Lake, Wash. Holy Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. A celebration of life as requested by Octavio will be in the state of Idaho at a future date with family and all those who loved him.
