Basin roundup: Moses Lake boys crack top five at Wenatchee Invitational

WENATCHEE — Strong races by Zachery Owens and Joshua Cooper helped Moses Lake boys cross country finish fifth at the Wenatchee Invitational.

Owens took seventh, clocking in at 16:24.66. Teammate Cooper was right behind him in eight place with a time of 16 minutes, 26.77 seconds.

Moses Lake totaled 178 team points. Columbia Basin Big Nine member Eastmont finished first with 61 points. Royal was ninth (269), Quincy was 20th (501) and Wahluke was 22nd (631).

Caleb Olson of Hanford won the race in 15 minutes, 34.01 seconds.

Kay Lester of Royal took sixth in the girls’ competition in 19:39.30. Bryn Heikes of Quincy (19:47.14) placed seventh and Camille Carpenter of Moses Lake (20:16.89) took 11th.

As a team, Royal was 10th and Moses Lake was 11th. Both schools totaled 212 points.

Liberty Bell won the meet comfortably, scoring 62 points. Liberty Bell’s Novie McCabe took first in 18 minutes, 40.70 seconds.

Ephrata’s Billingsley fifth at Connell Invite

CONNELL — Karen Billingsley finished fifth at the Connell Invitational in 21:15.47, leading Ephrata to third in the team standings with 78 points.

Pullman finished atop the team standings with 46 points and Othello was seventh with 182.

Geraldin Correa of Kennewick placed first in 19 minutes, 58.73 seconds.

Kolby Tune of Ephrata was the top local finisher in the boys’ competition. Tune took 19th with a time of 18 minutes, 12.35 seconds.

Ephrata was seventh (78) in the team standings. Pullman was also first on the boys’ side with 44 points and Othello was 10th with 248.

College Place’s Kenneth Rooks finished first in 15 minutes, 36.32 seconds.

Girls swimming

Moses Lake 16th at Mukilteo Invitational

FEDERAL WAY — Anna Fair was the high point scorer for Moses Lake, leading the Chiefs to 16th at the Mukilteo Invitational.

Moses Lake totaled 89 points behind Fair’s two top 10 finishes. Fair placed ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:20) and 100 butterfly (1:01).

Cora Dana earned team points, placing 23rd in the 50 freestyle in 26.3 seconds.

Lakeside edged Wenatchee for the team title 632.5-596.

Girls soccer

Prosser 3, Quincy 1

QUINCY — Quincy went into halftime tied 1-1 with Prosser, but lost 3-1.

Hailey McKee knocked in a penalty kick to even the game late in the first half.

Prosser took a 2-1 lead on a second-half penalty kick, conversely Quincy missed a penalty kick that would have tied the game.

Prosser scored an insurance goal with just under 10 minutes to play.

Prep volleyball

Omak 3, Soap Lake 0

OMAK — Soap Lake dropped a road match to Omak 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.

Taylor Harvill notched a team-high five kills. Juliana Hernandez and Makenna Johnson had three kills each.

ACH sweeps doubleheader

COULEE CITY — Almira/Coulee-Hartline was able to pick up wins against Selkirk and Cusick on Saturday.

The Warriors swept Selkirk 25-15, 25-22, 25-12.

Gabi Isaak totaled nine kills, three aces and four blocks to pace the Warriors. Josie Pierce recorded 20 assists.

ACH beat Cusick comfortably 25-9, 25-16, 25-6.

Maddie Murray led the attack with 10 kills. Christa Christopherson dished 15 assists.

College volleyball

Yakima Valley 3, Big Bend 0

YAKIMA — Yakima Valley swept Big Bend 25-21, 25-14, 25-19.

Madison Powers led the Vikings with seven kills. Ryana Recustodio and JoAndra Wilson added four kills each.

Savannah Bass totaled 13 assists.
