WARDEN — Running back Lorenzo Myrick rushed for two TDs and was on the receiving end of a Sawyer Jenks scoring strike, and Royal rolled past Warden 61-3 on the Cougars home field Friday. The victory was the 30th in a row for the 1A powerhouse team and kept the State’s longest winning streak intact.

“We had good focus and got our run game going,” coach Wiley Allred said. “We didn’t throw many passes, but the ones we did were pretty effective.”

Alonso Hernandez hit pay dirt on a 2-yard run (Guerrero PAT) to open first quarter scoring. A 19-yard pitch and catch from Jenks to Myrick (PAT) made it 14-0. Royal blew up the score board in the second quarter with two Myrick TD runs, a 51-yard bomb from Jenks to Isaac Ellis, a 41-yard toss to Angel Farias and a 14-yard Ellis fumble recovery for a score to take a comfortable a 48-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

Warden got on the board in the third quarter when Jonathan Jaime split the uprights from 34 yards out. The Knights answered back with a Jenks 8-yard scamper to push the score to 55-3 heading into the final 12 minutes of the game.

Royal added one more score in the fourth quarter when Tyler Allred hooked up with Carter Dorsing for a touchdown from 21-yards out.

“We were able to get some other guys in there in the second half,” Allred said. “That was a nice pass from Tyler to Carter — a couple of sophomores — that was good to see.”

Royal’s defense was aces once again, forcing four Warden turnovers and holding the Cougars to 37 total yards of offense.

“Rams Gonzalez really dominated the defensive line again. Jack Diaz played inside backer for the first time — sacked the quarterback and caused a fumble and Isaac Ellis picked it up for a score. Alonso Hernandez continues to make a lots of tackles at linebacker as well.”

Jenks completed five of eight passes for 156 yards and three TDs. His backup Tyler Allred threw for 32 yards and a score.

Hernandez led the Knights ground attack with nine carries for 79 yards and a touchdown. Myrick carried the rock five times for 52 yards and two TDs. Farias led all receivers with 77 yards on the night.

Royal is 1-0 in league play and 3-0 overall. The team is back on the gridiron at David Nielsen Stadium Friday night to take on College Place (0-1, 2-1). The Hawks are coming off a 13-7 loss to River View. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
