Don't let special interest group influence city council election

| September 21, 2017 3:00 AM

Do you know what a PAC is? It’s a “political action committee,” a special interest group that will spend money to get the candidate of their choice elected. A candidate can say he or she is self-funded but then a PAC can spend unlimited money on their election. These are most often business people, such as the local Realtors PAC. These are not people who throw away money; they expect something in return for their expenditures. You need to ask yourself what they think they are buying with the money they will be spending in the Moses Lake City Council election. And they are not the only special interest group that has taken an interest in our elections in the recent past.

It’s been two years since the elections for our city council were taken over by special interest who used PAC and west side money to support their candidates and help get them elected. Now they are poised to do the same again. Do we want to be told who we will choose to lead our community? It’s time to turn away from the power brokers and their way of winning elections, it’s time to chose our leaders for their honesty and their ability to do the job we need them to do, not because they are endorsed by some power group with money to push their choices on us.

This election I will not be voting for the people whose picture I see on flyers from groups willing to spend what it takes to get their choices elected. This election I will be voting for those who I believe have the honesty and integrity to put our city first, always ahead of any and all special interest. And I ask all of you to do the same.
