WOODBURN, Ore. — Kenedee Peters and Brittany Kwon made birdie on the first hole of the playoff hole to secure medalist honors at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier Thursday morning at OGA Course in Woodburn. Ore.
Peters, Ephrata, and Kwon of Bremerton put together a 6-under-par 66, then won the playoff in the elite tournament to qualify for the championship next spring at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif., in the extra hole.
Kwon defeated Peters to win the 62nd PNGA Junior Girls Championship last month. The two Washington state high school standouts combined forces to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier, making the turn at minus-3 and finishing with four straight birdies to defeat Euna Han, Coquitlam, B.C., and Susan Xiao of Surrey, B.C.
Han and Xiao made the turn at 4-under-par, but left the door open with a bogey on the 491-yard, par-5 11th hole.
Peters and Kwon overcame a bogey on No. 5 and broke a series of six pars on the back to close out the medalist honor with three straight birdies, then the final birdie to win in extra holes.
