Prep roundup: Royal trounces Othello, improves to 2-0
ROYAL CITY — When the smoke finally cleared out of the Columbia Basin, Royal promptly smoked Othello on the football field.
The Knights beat a Class 2A opponent for the second week in a row, this time the Huskies 35-0. The Knights have yet to allow a point.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter.
Royal took the lead for good after a goal line plunge by Alonso Hernandez. Hernandez scored his second touchdown of the game with just over five minutes to play in the first half.
After throwing five touchdowns against Ellensburg in Week 1, Sawyer Jenks connected for two against Othello. Jenks found Isaac Ellis for a 12-yard touchdown to give the Knights a 22-0 halftime lead.
Jenks hit Angel Farias for a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Lorenzo Myrick capped the scoring for the Knights with a four-yard touchdown run at the start of the fourth quarter.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 16, Wilbur-Creston 6
WILBUR — Mason Brausen eclipsed 200 yards from scrimmage and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague outlasted Wilbur-Creston 16-6.
The Broncos held an 8-6 lead in the fourth quarter before Brausen scored a five-yard rushing touchdown. Brausen recorded 132 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards.
Warden 63, Mabton 6
MABTON — Warden made its overdue trip to Mabton worth it, winning 63-6.
Warden hosts top-ranked Royal on Friday.
Volleyball
Soap Lake 3, Bridgeport 0
SOAP LAKE — Sierra Janikowski had seven kills and Soap Lake swept Bridgeport 25-19, 26-24, 25-17.
Julianna Hernandez added to the attack with five kills; Makenna Johnson and Taylor Harvill added four kills each.
Tracie Delgado totaled 12 assists and seven aces.
