Christian Academy dinner, auction set for Saturday

MOSES LAKE — A few tickets are still available for the annual Moses Lake Christian Academy fundraising dinner and auction, scheduled for Saturday at the ATEC building on the Big Bend Community College campus.

The silent auction and social hour begins at 5 p.m., with dinner following at about 6:30 p.m. The live auction is scheduled for about 7:45 p.m.

“Forged for Fellowship” is the 2017 theme. Chris Voigt is the master of ceremonies, and school administrator Stephanie Voigt will review the year at MLCA.

The seventh- and eighth-grade choir will perform, along with the high school choir. Chuck Yarbro is the auctioneer.

It’s the school’s main fundraiser each year, said organizer Jeni Chandler. It’s been a staple of the MLCA calendar for “about 30 years, maybe even a little bit more,” she said.

Most of the money raised goes into the school’s general fund. Some of the money raised in 2017 will be set aside to upgrade computers at the secondary level and for bus repair, Chandler said.

About 200 students are enrolled for the 2016-17 school year, preschool through high school. Moses Lake Christian Academy has been in operation, in one form or another, for 42 years.

After three decades, the event has developed some traditions of its own. Each class at MLCA puts together a project for the live auction.

Among other projects for 2017, the sophomore class repurposed a castoff into something completely different, “Flea Market Flip” style. The sixth grade assembled a Lego bundle saluting first responders and police officers.

Other prizes for the live auction include a go-kart; “the kids love to look at it,” Chandler said. There are tickets to a Seattle Seahawks game, a grill, two Seahawk Adirondack chairs, a jet boat trip at the Potholes, a prime rib dinner for 20 and a stay at a Hawaiian condo, among many others.

Tickets are $40 per person, and can be purchased at the MLCA office, 1475 Northeast Nelson Rd.
