Keep Donovan and Ochoa on the school board

| October 30, 2017 3:00 AM

Sometimes change makes sense, but in the case of the upcoming Moses Lake School Board election, it does not. Kevin Donovan and Oscar Ochoa have done an excellent job and should be re-elected. I am certain their challengers are good people, and I applaud them for being willing to serve kids, but Donovan and Ochoa have demonstrated they are up to the awesome responsibility of leading us into the future.

Our district is in a strong financial position, due in large part to the leadership of Donovan and Ochoa. In uncertain times, and with debates at the state level about school funding, our district has funds in reserve to respond to a delay in funding that could result from disagreements in the Legislature.

In times of crisis, proven leadership counts. When the district was hit with a $3 million reduction in tax support a few years ago, there was enough money in district coffers to weather that storm. Because of good management of funds, the district was able to maintain programs important to kids.

In a very short time, our district will undertake the building of two new schools, thanks to the leadership of Donovan and Ochoa. In order to see these projects through, we need the experience and knowledge they can provide.

Donovan and Ochoa are hands-on board members. They can be seen at a variety of school events and activities. They visit school buildings during the school day to observe first-hand how things are going. They ask questions, provide support, and expect nothing but the best.

Please mark and return your ballot prior to Nov. 7. I’ll be marking mine for Kevin Donovan and Oscar Ochoa. Please join me in re-electing these two fine board members.
