Zombies and more in Lind this weekend
LIND — The town of Lind will be taken over by zombies – or at least downtown Lind will be taken over – Saturday and Sunday. The first Zombie Walk is an expansion of the town’s annual Halloween Family Night.
The weekend’s events, from scary movies to trunk-or-treating, are sponsored by the Lind Chamber of Commerce.
Participants who want to get that just-horribly-dead zombie look can attend a zombie makeup class from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $5 per person. People who want more information can contact Mary Ann Clemmer, 509-217-8862, who’s the contact person for all zombie weekend events.
Zombie costumes will be judged at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lind city park. Entry is $5 per person. There will be first, second and third-place trophies for each age group. There are three age groups, 6 to 10 years of age, 11 to 17 years of age and 18 years of age and older.
The “zombie walk” is scheduled for 5 p.m. through downtown Lind.
The brand-new “zombie shootout” is scheduled for 5:30 to 10 p.m. in the Lind park. The zombie shootout is a paintball game; participants pay $5 for 10 paint balls, $10 for 25 paint balls.
Halloween has to include a horror movie; in Lind, that will be “Annabelle,” scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the park. “Annabelle” features many of the classic tropes of a horror movie – demons, innocent children, a beautiful but creepy doll. Children 10 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday night is family night, the ninth year of downtown activities. It starts with a costume contest at 4 p.m. Entry is free for the costume contest and all Sunday night events.
Two age groups will be eligible for the Sunday night costume contest, children up to 6 years of age and 7 to 12 years of age. There will be awards for first, second and third places.
The annual “trunk or treat” begins at 4:30 p.m. in downtown Lind. “All decorated trunks welcome,” according to a poster announcing the event.
Another Halloween movie, this one family-friendly, is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the park. “Casper,” of course, is the 1995 live-action film about the classic cartoon character. The zombie shoot-out returns from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
There will be games for kids, including a cakewalk, which begins at 5 p.m. in the park. Vendors will be setting up in the park as well, and other activities are planned in the park both days.
