Samuel E. Hickman

December 20, 1959 – September 27, 2017

Sam owned and operated HBP Inc., Hickman Blasting and Painting, for many years in Moses Lake, Wash. In past employment, he worked as a mechanic for a Moses Lake Chevrolet dealership, was a union painter and owned his own residential painting business. He worked as a fisherman in the South Pacific. He also worked in a fish cannery in Alaska and worked in Kauai as a carpenter and then later as a core driller, also in the Hawaiian islands.

Sam was an avid snowmobiler and loved to travel and hunt for elk, bear and deer. He enjoyed surfing in Kauai on the North Shore. He enjoyed camping and fishing and rock hunting for gems and fossils. He also loved to compete in mud bogging and hosted his own mud bogging events. He enjoyed the sand dunes in Moses Lake. He helped his father farm wheat and alfalfa for many years. Sam built a beautiful home and business in Moses Lake, landscaped with many different varieties of trees, and took pride in his home. Sam has traveled and explored Montana, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Mexico, Hawaiian Islands, Canada, South Pacific, Alaska, Mississippi and the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.)

Sam loved and rescued many dogs and cats at the local animal shelter throughout the years. He had pet dogs, cats, chickens and goats. His most recent loved animals were Dizzy, his cat of many years, Jake and Doogy, his beloved dogs, and his “forever dog,” Peanut.

Sam would say, “my longest relationship, my constant companion, my best friend – Peanut.”

Graveside Service will be on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Ephrata, Wash. at 1 p.m., located on Third Avenue at the end of the road.

A Celebration of Life will follow at Block 40 Community Club from 2:30-4 p.m.
