Melcher, Goodrich good choices for school board

| October 19, 2017 1:00 AM

I am a former school board member who proudly served our community for ten years from 1979–89. School Board members are elected to oversee school management to ensure that our students get the best education possible and that our money is spent wisely. After observing our current board for many years, I feel that they are in need of members with some new fresh ideas. Our community has been divided, over the years, with the talk of building new schools. We all want our kids to have the best education and with financial decisions impacting us we need people who will ask hard questions of school management about how money is being spent. They need to take time to research and talk to staff to find out what is happening in the schools. Be open to ideas from the community and not promote their own agenda. Our district is the largest business in Moses Lake. We need leaders that know how to successfully run a business and bring this community together.

I would like to endorse two new candidates to serve on the MLSD School Board, Vickey Melcher and Elliott Goodrich. Vickey is a retired special education teacher and has helped run a successful family business. With her school experience she understands what is going on and she isn’t afraid to ask hard questions.

Elliott Goodrich is a local businessman with outstanding qualifications and energy and a father with children in the district. They both know that money is a concern for everyone and that it takes people with business sense to make hard but wise decisions for the good of our children.

I see how dedicated that they both are to make sure that the growth of our school district is done in a sound and responsible way.
