ROYAL CITY — Royal Soccer recorded back-to-back home wins to move to 3-5 in the East Conference standings and 4-5 overall, and is back in the postseason race. The Knights defense came up big, holding their opponents scoreless in both contests.

The Knights’ Amy Sandoval got an early first half goal off an Alicia Callahan assist and Royal shut out College Place 1-0 Oct. 5 at David Nielsen Stadium.

“We had an opportunity to put another first half score on the board, but had a penalty kick save,” coach Jens Jensen said. “But in the end, one gaol was enough and the girls claimed all three points.”

The Knights snapped a two-game skid with a 4-0 win over the Timberwolves Oct. 3. Royal led 2-0 at the break on goals by Danielle Lima and Noelia Juarez (Alicia Callahan). Amy Sandoval made it 3-0 at the 62nd minute of the match. Lindsey Carrasco capped off the scoring at the 80th minute.

“It was nice to get goals from four different girls,” coach Jens Jensen said. “Our defense played well too, holding Goldendale to zero shots for the match.”

Royal finished with 23 shots on frame; 14 coming in the first half of action.

The Knights hit the road to Mattawa Tuesday, but the results from the match with the Warriors were not unavailable by press time.
