Thanks to PUD for fiber buildout

| November 30, 2017 2:00 AM

It’s important to acknowledge when public officials make a hard, rather than easy, decision. Such was the case last week when our Grant County PUD Commissioners agreed to continue funding (without a ratepayer increase) the buildout of fiber optic connectivity in the 2018 PUD budget.

This is a decision that supports the future of agriculture, education, continuing education, healthcare and other yet-uninvented activities and services in our county. It’s also a decision that allows our young people to choose to stay in Grant County rather than move away.

Thank you to PUD Commissioners Tom Flint, Dale Walker, Terry Brewer, Bob Bernd and Larry Schaapman. This decision is very much in line with other significant, historic “county-changing” decisions — like the ones that brought electricity, irrigation and center pivots to Grant County.

Our group, Grant County Fiberactive, is thanking and congratulating you for this very positive decision.
