Replace Pledge?
To Mr. Kirkpatrick and my dear friends in Othello [the best town in the world]. We are neighbors. I’ll start by saying I agree with what Mr. Crisp said last week. It could be time to upgrade the wording a bit, again. He said that “under God” was added in 1954, because we choose as a nation to accept that there is a [one] Big GOD. [Atheistic Communism was spreading the thought that since we are all our own god we needed a totalitarian government to unify us.]
I’ll refer to one of Mr. Crisp’s suggestions here as being [in my opinion] the worst possible idea [since we already won our independence] because it just may encourage more violence among the younger members of our society...”Give me liberty or give me death.” Patrick Henry.
Try this instead:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America — because of the Republic for which it stands — one nation under GOD– indivisible — with liberty and justice for each and every individual — from conception to the grave.
In America we are all brothers [or sisters] and responsible to GOD for our neighbors as for ourselves.
Allegiance: loyalty and devotion in general to a principle [among other things].
