Eagles soar over Warriors 42-9 in Mattawa
MATTAWA — What had shaped up to be a knock-down-drag-out fight for second place in the East Conference between Wahluke and Connell in Mattawa Friday, turned out to be a bell ringer for the Warriors who were pummeled 42-9 by the Eagles on their home field.
“We were down 14-0 two minutes into the game, but fought back to make it 21-9 at half,” coach Mike Foristiere said. “But we just weren’t consistent enough to get it done in in the second half. Credit Connell — they have a very good team.”
The Warriors weren’t completely shut down by the No. 4 ranked Eagles as the offense did produce 296 yards in the contest; 217 by way of the ground. Juan Silva who carried the rock 14 times for 82 yards led Wahluke’s rushing attack. Rock Foristiere added 60 yards on 17 carries, Daniel Ayala added nine touches for 51 yards. Warrior quarterback Oscar Rodriquez completed 3 of 5 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown. Jose Ceyla booted a 25-yard field goal.
Wahluke hits the road to Naches Valley for a loser out crossover game with the West Conference Rangers. Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
