WARDEN — A historian unearthed a unique object near Warden last week.

A retired Air Force veteran and historian reportedly located a crash site from 1955 in the area of state Route 17 and state Route 170, near Warden, where a F-86D Sabre had crashed. As the veteran was digging in the area, he reportedly found a live 2.75-inch missile warhead, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The Air Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal team responded to the scene and rendered the warhead safe on site. There were no reported injuries, stated the sheriff’s office.
