Ed Bucklin passed away peacefully at Prestige Assistant Living at Hearthstone in Ellensburg, Wash. on May 23, 2017. He was 88 years old.

Ed was born Jan. 11, 1929 to Alice Elvina (Blessum) Bucklin and Roscoe J. Bucklin outside Sunburst, Mont. In 1938 the family moved to Everett, Wash. Ed attended school in Everett, Wash., graduating from Everett High School in 1947. He was the only player on his high school basketball team to make the all-district team, earning him a scholarship to Everett Junior College for two years. The team won the Northwest Championship that year. Ed was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Everett J.C. in 2011 for his achievements in both basketball and golf.

In addition to basketball, he played golf and won the state high school championship, followed by the Washington State Junior College championship in 1948 and 1949, going on to win many other golf titles and championships. Ed served in the Naval Reserve and later was drafted and served in the Army. In 1949, a 20-year-old Ed met 16-year-old JoAnne May Aichlmayr at a dance in Edmonds, Wash. and claimed that it was love at first sight. They married on May 19, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church in Everett, Wash and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on May 19, 2017.

After being discharged from the Army in 1953, Ed worked as Assistant Pro at Everett Country Club and then Overlake Country Club in Bellevue, Wash., which led him to his lifelong career as a professional golfer. He took the position of head pro at Moses Lake Golf and Country club in 1960 where he stayed for 22 years until his retirement in 1982. He served as the president of the Inland Empire chapter of the PGA throughout his time as a head pro.

Ed could always be counted on to bring a smile with his quick wit and unlimited sense of humor. He was a dedicated father, husband and provider.

Ed is survived by his wife, JoAnne, who resides at Prestige Senior Living at Hearthstone in Ellensburg, Wash.; sons Dan Bucklin and wife Doreen of Aiken, S.C., Doug Bucklin and wife Michele of Ellensburg, Wash., Don Bucklin and wife Ann sharing residency in Houston, Texas and Ellensburg, Wash., David Bucklin of Des Moines, Wash. and daughter Dana Moler and husband John of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
