Wicked 14U softball finishes first
MOSES LAKE — Wicked 14U softball team took first place in the Early Bird Tournament.
The team played three games on Saturday and went 1-2, losing early to Rampage and Tribe. They pulled out a win in their last game against Orange Crush with tough pitching and catching by Brianne Rangel and Isabel Jones backed up by Amaya Bravo, Nyomi Field, Savannah Alamos and Shelby McPherson in the infield and Amy Field, Cassandra Bravo and Leila Bartlome in the outfield.
On Sunday, Brianne Rangel pitched to catcher Peyton Barrientoz. In the infield, Alora Botello played first, Jones played second, C. Bravo played short and Jayden Melby played third with Nyomi Field, Brenna Rangel, McPherson and Maddison Pitts in the outfield.
They faced Tribe in a competitive match in which they lost McPherson (left field) to an injury at bat, but not before she scored a run. Notably, Barrientoz played aggressively and threw out two runners attempting to steal second, while Bravo laid down the tags. Overall strong pitching by Rangel, who had nine strikeouts all day, solid hitting, tough defense, and a great catch by Field in the last inning led us to the championship game against Rampage. Solid offense in the second game, with consistent at-bats from all including a triple by Pitts and a double by Botello resulted in a 14-5 win.
Wicked will play this weekend in the Northwest Early Bird in Coeur d’Alene, ID and is looking forward to another successful weekend.
