Fair Committee seeks volunteers
MOSES LAKE — If you live in Quincy, Royal City, or Mattawa, and are looking for something to do, the Grant County Fair Advisory Committee is looking for you.
Grant County Fairgrounds Director Mickey Webb said the fair board is looking for three members — one full-time board member and two alternates — to bring it up to its full strength of seven regular members and two alternates.
Currently, Webb said the board has only six members and no alternates after one full-time board member was forced to retire following the completion of two full terms and the decision by another board member not to seek a second three-year term.
“The primary job of the board is to advise the director and the county commissioners on fair-related topics, to report on what the community is concerned about or interested in, and to be a sounding board for anything new,” Webb said.
The positions are volunteer — they do not pay — and the Fair Advisory Committee meets on the first Thursday of every month. Fair committee members also often volunteer to work at the fair, especially to meet and greet, though that’s not required, Webb said.
However, the amount of time volunteers and board members devote to the job is entirely dependent upon the amount of time they have to give, Webb said.
Webb added he’s looking specifically for residents of the western and southern parts of Grant County because Moses Lake is currently over-represented on the committee.
“We’d like cities outside of Moses Lake, so that the whole county is represented,” Webb said. “This isn’t the Moses Lake, it’s the Grant County Fair.”
Anyone interested in becoming either a full or alternate member of the Grant County Fair Advisory Board can apply at the Grant County website www.grantcountywa.gov/Request/Volunteer or contact the Grant County Fairgrounds at 509-765-3581.
