| May 19, 2017 4:00 AM

August 19, 1938 – May 11, 2017

James Jacob Faix, “Jim”, 78, of Othello, Wash. passed away May 11, 2017. He was born Aug. 19, 1938 in Hillsboro, Ore.

After serving four years in the Air Force (1956-1960) he studied more than a decade, earning degrees from Universities in Washington, Illinois, and New York and achieving a PhD in Agronomy from Cornell in 1974. Jim worked as a lab agronomist, started a business, Fresh Produce Ltd. and was a favorite seller at farmers markets. He spent his entire life experimenting with variety trials and horticulture practices of forage, melons, berries and other fruits and vegetables. He took special pride in his garden at home; his care for his berries and melons was second to none. To escape life’s stresses he could always be found hoeing weeds and tending to his plants. He woke up countless mornings at sunrise to start his days and on May 11, 2017 at 5 a.m., at Avalon Care Center in Othello, Wash., he found his way to a new garden in heaven.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him. He was survived by his sons Chris (Lynne) Faix of Othello, Wash., Timothy (Jennifer Rusher) Faix of Pasco, Wash. and Jonathan Faix of Othello, Wash.; his sister Doris Nelson of Salem, Ore., and longtime close friend Joy Weisner of Pasco, Wash. Jim also leaves behind four grandchildren Austin, Jarrett, Brockson and Savannah Faix to cherish his loving memory.

A private family gathering is going to be held at a later date. Per Jim’s request, no public funeral services will be held. To leave an online condolence to the family, please visit our website at www.stevensfc.com.
