March 14, 1955 – May 12, 2017

Carol Josena Newhouse, age 62, of Sunnyside, Wash., passed away May 12, 2017 in Seattle. Carol was born March 14, 1955,in Minneapolis, Minn. She graduated from Newport High School in Bellevue and attended Bellevue and Yakima Valley Community Colleges. On May 15, 1982 she married Dan Newhouse in Sunnyside, where they made their home and raised their two children, Jensena and Devon. Carol was an accomplished businesswoman working alongside her husband Dan on the family farm, managing the office. She also started and ran the Inkwell and Paper Company in Sunnyside and volunteered her time and creative talents as a visionary, florist, and artist to countless charities and civic organizations.

Carol’s pride and joy was her family. She was extremely proud of her children and was known for her tireless support of her husband’s endeavors. She had a deep affection for all animals from the many dogs and cats to whom she has given homes over the years, to birds, lizards, snakes and others. Carol was a no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is person and a fierce advocate for those things in which she believed. Many were recipients of her generosity, selflessness, caring, encouragement to excel and genuine friendship. To those she befriended, her home and heart were always open, a heart full of love and a home full of happiness, good food and good wine.

Carol is survived by her husband Dan, daughter Jensena and son Devon and daughter-in-law Halley, all of Sunnyside. She is also survived by her extended family and many close friends as well as her beloved pets Magenta, Casper, Levi and Mango. Carol’s family would like to thank those who cared for her so lovingly over the course of her battle against cancer: Sunnyside Community Hospital, Virginia Mason Memorial and Virginia Mason Seattle.

We are all better people for having known Carol. She has left a hole in our lives and our hearts, but the memories of her energy, love for adventure and zest for life will always bring a smile and comfort us through the years.
