Prep roundup: Ephrata's Peters wins district title with personal best

SOAP LAKE — Fresh off a personal best round of 70 a week ago at Lakeview Golf and Country Club, top Ephrata golfer Kenedee Peters did even better at her home course in the District 5/6 2A Girls Golf Championships.

Peters sunk a 20-foot birdie putt on hole No. 18 to shoot 69 and win a district championship by eight strokes.

“She was very excited,” head coach Heidi Burns said. “Her goal was to get into the 60s today.”

Shelby Baum (77) and Morgan Baum (84) led East Valley to the team title with a score of 346. Ephrata was second, shooting a combined 399.

Ephrata's Isabel Buchert shot her best round of the season to finish sixth with a 94.

Quincy's Marlo Omlin (102) and Anai Flores (111) also qualified for the state tournament.

Jadith Alcarez of Quincy and Chloe Mickelson of Ephrata both shot 118 and are state alternates.

The 2A state championship will be held next week at Indian Canyon in Spokane.


Moses Lake tennis unable to advance out of districts

YAKIMA — Moses Lake tennis was unable to advance out of the District 6 Tournament.

Doubles team Canon Gregoire and James Zimmer were bounced out of the semifinals of the District 6 Tournament and lost their first consolation match.

Gregoire/Zimmer lost in the semis to West Valley's Corban Kinloch/Colby Kitt 6-2, 6-3.

Singles player Brian Nguyen also lost his first consolation match.

Nguyen was eliminated by Wenatchee's Luke Andrewjeski.

Wenatchee won three out of the four district championships. Jack Yount won the boys singles and Tobi Butler/Isaiah Banken won the doubles.

Eastmont's Lily Waterhouse won girls singles and Wenatchee doubles team Kaylnn Noyd/Anna Davenport took first.
