Nominations sought for BLM committee

SPOKANE — The eastern Washington district of the Bureau of Land Management is looking for nominations for two open seats on its Resource Advisory Council.

Advisory council members are “chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues.” Nominations are being accepted through May 30.

The councils include people from various backgrounds with an interest in land use. Each council includes 10 to 15 members.

Candidates must meet the qualifications for each seat. The first is reserved for “representatives of nationally recognized environmental organizations, archaeological and historical organizations, dispersed recreation activities and wild horse and burro organizations.”

The second is designated for “representatives of state, county or local elected office,” representatives state agencies that manage natural resources, “representatives of Indian tribes within or adjacent to the area for which the RAC is organized,” people specializing in natural sciences from academic institutions, “and the public at large.”

Candidates must be Washington residents and will be evaluated for their knowledge of the region they will be representing. “Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collaborative decision making.”
