Prep roundup: Othello almost upends 4A Richland

RICHLAND — Othello almost matched bats with 4A Richland in an 11-9 loss.

The Huskies scored six first-inning runs on the Bombers and led 9-7 after five innings. However, the Bombers struck for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take their first lead.

“I think we hit the ball very well,” head coach Rudy Ochoa said. “Just couple of mental errors and things might have been different. Very happy with the way we played.”

Nikki Martinez was 4-for-4 with two doubles and Mariah DeLeon was 2-for-2.

Brandie Andrews and Addison Pettit led Richland with three hits each.

Othello returns to CWAC play with a doubleheader at home against Quincy on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.


Baseball

Quincy 1, East Valley 0

YAKIMA — Quincy upset third-seeded East Valley 1-0 to advance in the CWAC district playoffs.

A dropped fly ball allowed Doug Tobin to score the game's lone run.

Quincy will travel to play Ellensburg in the district semifinals May 6.


Boys golf

Othello sixth at Suncadia Invite

CLE ELUM — Othello received solid performances from Patrick Azevedo and Isaiah Garza to place sixth at the Suncadia Invite.

Azevedo carded a 76 and No. 3 golfer Garza bested his average with an 86, contributing to a team score of 341.

CWAC rival Ephrata totaled 360 to place 11th. Sean Couture led the Tigers with a team-low 77.

Selah's Dylan Apodaca shot a blistering 68, edging East Valley's Ryker Torres by one stroke, for the individual medal.

Mount Si took the team title with four golfers shooting 80 or lower.
