Columbia Basin roundup: Othello softball routs Prosser

PROSSER — Othello moved back into third place in the Central Washington Athletic Conference after a pair of lopsided wins against Prosser, 22-0 and 25-0.

Nikki Martinez and Audisey Sauceda each pitched one-hitters.

Martinez also homered in both games. Mariah DeLeon was 3-for-3 with a triple and Rilee Heist was 2-for-2 with a triple in Game 1.

Nikki Velazquez was 5-for-6 in the second game. Sauceda and Ebony Guzman tripled.


Ellensburg 12-14, Ephrata 2-4

ELLENSBURG — Ephrata fell to undefeated Ellensburg on the road 12-2 and 14-4.

Ephrata mustered two hits in the opener, a double by Paige Davis and a single by Morgan Williams.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

In Game 2, Ephrata led 4-0 after two innings before Ellensburg plated 13 in the bottom of the third.

Mikayla Wood was 2-for-3 with two RBI.


Warden 11-13, River View 1-3

WARDEN — Warden stayed undefeated in league play with a sweep of River View 11-1 and 13-3.

Jizelle Pruneda scattered five hits, allowing no runs in four innings.

Bailey Whitney, Aaliyah Escamilla, Amanda Contreras and Monika Jesse had multiple hits.

Pruneda threw the second game and finished with five strikeouts.

Jocelyn Chagoya hit a three-run blast; Julianna Pruneda, Ashlyn Yamane, Jizelle Pruneda and Contreras doubled.

Warden travels to Kiona-Benton May 5 for a doubleheader that will decide the league championship.


Baseball

Wenatchee 13-12, Moses Lake 2-7

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake was swept on the road by Wenatchee 13-2 and 12-7.

Moses Lake led in the opener before Wenatchee rallied.

Austin Valdez and Dominic Signorelli drove in one run apiece in the third inning, giving the Chiefs a brief 2-0 lead. However, the Panthers scored 13 unanswered runs over the next three innings.

Wenatchee built a 6-1 lead in the late game before Moses Lake scored four times in the fourth inning. Ezekyel Ochoa, Josh Williams and Zach Valdez had RBI singles in the frame.

The Panthers countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the sixth.


Warden 10-11, River View 0-1

WARDEN — Warden pushed its win streak to four games after a sweep of River View 11-1 and 10-0.

Ryan Arredondo pitched a one-hitter in the opener and J.R. Delgado went four innings in the late game.

“If we can execute and put the ball in play those two will give us a chance to win,” head coach Dan Caballero said.

Carlos Reyes totaled three RBI and two doubles, John Ray Mast had two RBI and Holden Haworth hit an inside-the-park home run.


Soap Lake 4-4, Lake Roosevelt 3-5

COULEE DAM — Soap Lake settled for a road split with Lake Roosevelt, winning 4-3 before losing 5-4.

The Eagles trailed 3-0 in the opener before scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. Jackson Gray had a pair of hits.

Lake Roosevelt scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh of the late game to win.

The Eagles finish the regular season Tuesday, 4:30 p.m., at home against Liberty Bell.


Ephrata 8-4, Quincy 5-12

QUINCY — Ephrata split with Quincy to finish tied with Othello for fourth in the CWAC.

The Tigers won the early game 8-5 and lost the late game 12-4.

The sixth-seeded Jacks will travel to East Valley on Wednesday for the first round of districts. Ephrata will play Othello.


Boys soccer

East Valley 4, Quincy 0

YAKIMA — Quincy could not stop East Valley striker Paul Cuevas in a 4-0 loss.

Cuevas scored his 20th goal of the season and the Red Devils led 3-0 at halftime.

Quincy reached the district tournament as the No. 6 seed and will travel to Toppenish on Tuesday.


College Place 7, Warden 0

COLLEGE PLACE — Warden fell to fifth place in the South Central Athletic Conference East after a 7-0 loss to College Place.

Hector Diaz, Alan Escalante and Jesse Garcia led College Place with two goals apiece.

Warden ends the regular season Tuesday at home against Connell.


Track and field

Central Valley dominates Strandberg Invitational

SPOKANE VALLEY — Host Central Valley dominated the Strandberg Invitational, winning the team title in boys and girls.

Moses Lake's Midori Raymond finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 16.61 seconds. Freshman Camille Carpenter also set a personal record in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 26.50 seconds, good for third place.

Ephrata performs well at Rieke Invite

PESHASTIN — Ephrata finished in the top five in the boys and girls competition at the Rieke Invite.

Brad Flanigan took first in the 110 hurdles in 16.09 seconds.

McCall DeChenne won the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.89 seconds. DeChenne, along with teammates Nikola Brzezny, Mya Spencer and Hailey Miller won the 4x100 and 4x200 relay.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline's Berlyn Hunt showed off her all-around athleticism with top-10 finishes in four events. Hunt won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet.

Soap Lake's Lopez wins twice at Undeberg

RITZVILLE — Soap Lake's Evelin Lopez won the 1600 and 3200 at the Undeberg Invite.

Lopez cruised to personal best times in both events, finishing the 1600 in 5:36.83 and the 3200 in 11:55.54

Led by wins in the 100 hurdles, pole vault, 4x200 and 4x400, Royal won the girls' competition with 96 points.

Maggie Delay finished first in the 100 hurdles and pole vault and also ran on the 4x200 relay.
