MOSES LAKE — Ezekyel Ochoa stared down West Valley's Spencer Froula from the pitcher's mound.

With the bases loaded, two outs and a full count Ochoa missed inside, walking in a run. Spencer Bailey grabbed that inch and took a mile, hitting a line drive off the chest of shortstop Kameron Huberdeau that scored two more runs.

In addition to the four runs scored on Tuesday, the three-run fifth inning was more than enough for the Rams who won Wednesday's makeup game 8-2.

“We've just got to be clutch at the right times and make some plays to keep us in the ball game,” head coach Quintz Whitaker said. “It was kind of keeping the floodgates from breaking. Obviously that's a big at-bat there that they were able to drive those runs in.”

On a much nicer day than Tuesday's downpour, Ochoa took the hill and completed two scoreless innings.

The fifth is when trouble arose.

Tanner Cline and Matthew Brawn hit consecutive singles to load the bases, which set up the bases loaded walk and two-run line drive. Carter Stout came on in relief to end the inning.

Stout chugged along for the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing a run in the sixth when Cody Crow scored from third base on a fielder's choice.

Moses Lake was able to manufacture its two runs in the home half of the sixth. Cameron Duke legged out a hard hit ball to the shortstop and Huberdeau was plunked on the head to put runners on first and second base.

First baseman Cody Goodwin ripped a line drive into left field for an RBI single.

“My main thing is attack early in the count then hit fastball,” he said.

Goodwin has driven in two of the three runs Moses Lake has scored this season.

“Last year we had him behind the plate and this year he's over at first base,” Whitaker said. “I think it's freed him up a little bit. He feels good; his legs have gotten a little stronger, too, and I think he just has been able to come out, like you said, get the hits.

“One of the things we've talked about over and over again is being able to get those two-out hits, things like that, and he's a guy who is just real solid for us.”

Brandon Swett followed with a fielder's choice that scored Huberdeau.

Moses Lake has a quick turnaround before a doubleheader Friday against the Rams in Yakima.

“I think we can go down there and get two on Friday,” Goodwin said.
