| March 22, 2017 1:00 AM

OTHELLO — The reigning 2A state champions were too consistent for the competition as East Valley won the Othello Invitational by 48 strokes.

The Red Devils had four out of five golfers shoot under 60.

Due to the rain, the competitors only played nine holes with Shelby Baum of East Valley carding a low score of 37, edging Kenedee Peters of Ephrata by two strokes.

Peters and Baum were the class of the course, scoring in the 30s. Luka Van Der Merwe — 15th at state a year ago — had a score of 42 to help East Valley finish first with a score of 191. Ephrata was second with 239 and the host Huskies were third with 304.

Ephrata and Othello will compete at the Moses Lake Girls Golf Invitational on April 10.

Bernie Garza Jr. headed in a free kick by Sergio Mondragon in the 30th minute for the game's only goal.

It was the Huskies' (4-0) third shutout of the season.

Eastmont 4, Moses Lake 2

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake was unable to dig out of a 3-0 hole and lost to Eastmont 4-2.

The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead at halftime as defensive mistakes marred the Chiefs who gave up an own goal.

Erik Vega and Anthony Cortez scored in the second half for Moses Lake.

“It's frustrating, but at the same time we're building and growing,” head coach Rian Allred said.

Moses Lake returns to Lions Field March 28 to play Davis.
