2 Basin seniors to play in WIBCA All-State games
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A pair of Columbia Basin senior boys basketball players were selected to participate in the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association 2017 All-State Senior All-Star Games.
Warden’s J.R. Delgado made the 1A team and Almira/Coulee-Hartline’s Charlie Hunt is on the 1B team.
Delgado was the South Central Athletic Conference Player of the Year, helping Warden reach the Class 1A state tournament at the Yakima SunDome for the first time in school history. The Cougars won their first game against King’s Way Christian 53-50 before losing their next two.
Delgado averaged 24.6 points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals per game.
Delgado’s 1A team is matched up with a 2A team that features University of Idaho commit Scott Blakney of Prosser and state champions Roberto Gittens and Donald Scott of Foss.
Hunt was a key contributor for an ACH team that finished second in state in 2016 and third in 2017. Hunt had 12 points in the Warriors’ quarterfinal win against rival Odessa-Harrington this season.
Hunt will square off against a 2B team that features 6-foot-8 Luke Lovelady of Life Christian Academy.
The three all-star games are on March 18 at Mountlake Terrace High School: 1B vs. 2B is at 2 p.m., 1A vs. 2A is at 4 p.m. and 3A vs. 4A is at 6 p.m.
The 3A field includes future Washington Husky Jaylen Nowell of Garfield. The 4A team has WIBCA Player of the Year Cameron Cranston of Union.
