Donald (Don) Newton

February 16, 1942 – March 2, 2017

Donald (Don) Newton passed unexpectedly on March 2, 2017 at his home in Moses Lake, Wash. at the age of 75. Don was preceded in death by his father Jack, mother Thelma Newton, and brother David Newton.

Don is survived by his wife of 54 years Carol Newton; his three children and their spouses Gary and Marcea Newton, Annie (Newton) Thompson and John Thompson and Christopher Newton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Charles Newton and his wife Sydney, Kaylea Newton and her fiancé Danny Rowton, Thomas Newton, Claire Thompson and Cyan Thompson. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Bob) and Marsha Newton and his sister Pamela and Jerry Coppernoll.

Don was born on Feb. 16, 1942 in Ontario, Ore. to Charles and Thelma Newton. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1960. After a year at Washington State University he returned to Moses Lake to start working in the family business at Jack’s Bargain Barn. There he met his wife Carol Hickman; they settled in Moses Lake and started their family. He enjoyed a long, fruitful career in the grocery business.

Don had love for Priest Lake, Idaho where he enjoyed spending time with family, friends playing cards and relaxing. He enjoyed and was a great fan of Seattle Mariners baseball. He attended spring training and numerous regular season games. His hobbies of rebuilding classic vehicles and fishing kept him busy in his retirement. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 18 at the Living Word Lutheran Church, 2609 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake Wash. We are having a potluck dinner at Moses Lake Senior Center, 608 E.
