OTHELLO — The community of Othello will soon learn who will be chosen as the Distinguished Young Woman for 2017.

Two of the five hopefuls are Othello High School juniors Rachel Risenmay and Liz Giles. Both are college-bound.

The DYW program will be held on Saturday, March 11, at the McFarland Middle School. The show, which will feature group and individual segments, will get under way at 7 p.m.

Rachel is the daughter of Wendy and Paul Risenmay. Her talent display will be singing and clogging. She plans to attend Brigham Young University Idaho to study interior design.

“I love what the DYW program stands for,” Rachel said. “I really believe in the be-your-best-self program. Being able to represent this program in the community I was born and raised in would be a dream come true.”

Liz also plans to attend BYU Idaho. She is planning a career in photography. The daughter of Brent and Stefanie Giles will give a guitar and singing performance.

“I want to be Othello’s DYW because I have put a lot of effort and time into the program, and I’ve grown so much from it,” Liz said. “I also want to make an impact on the community.”
