December 8, 1953 – February 1, 2017

With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce that on Feb. 1, David Wayne Allen passed away unexpectedly at Hoag Memorial Hospital with his wife and daughter at his side. He is greatly missed by his family and the friends who knew and loved him.

Dave was born on Dec. 8, 1953 in New Castle, Wyo. to Wayne and Dee Allen. His siblings are Terry and Lori, both of Sedro Woolley, Wash. At the age of 21, Dave married his other half, Barbara Blackwood, and they remained married for nearly 43 years, up until his passing.

The quality that comes to mind when remembering Dave is “helper.” He helped so many people with so many things, and was always there for his children in moments of crisis. As a drug and alcohol counselor, he guided many people to a path of sobriety, not just in his practice, but friends and family members as well. He was always the person you could turn to for guidance. He had just recently retired, and had moved to California with Barb to be near his grandchildren, who loved him dearly. Not a day went by that he wasn’t doing something with the grandkids, whether it be getting slurpees with Cayden or playing chase with Greysen. He loved being papa. He’s left behind a hole in many people’s hearts, not least of all his beloved wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, his two children Brent and Dara, two grandchildren Cayden and Greysen and sisters Terry Wilson and Lori Finch (Willie), as well as many other extended family members. He’s preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Dee, his beloved in-laws John and Marie Blackwood, and nephew Deme Garibay. He’s lost several good friends along the way, and to know them is to know they’re all raising hell in heaven.
