There are better choices for council members

| June 29, 2017 4:00 AM

Underhanded and unethical? Sneaky and shady also? Sad, but true. Todd Voth and Bill Ecret were council members who proved their lack of ethics by ambushing our city manager during a council meeting. They fired him, then had to undo the firing because it was underhanded, unethical, sneaky, shady and possibly illegal. All this was done at huge expense to the city. Remember that? They were not up for election at the time, so they remained on the council. Now is a chance to remedy that, as they have not changed their practices as shown by this filing fiasco.

Apparently Mr. Ecret has done a poor job in his district and fears he cannot be re-elected, so he switched districts with Mr Voth and filed to run unopposed. It is hard to lose when you are unopposed, even if you just might be incompetent. Sneaky, unethical? Yes. And typical. Mr. Voth, who has never suffered from a lack of ego, is now running in Mr. Ecret’s district, thinking he can win there. Voth and Ecret continually have shown how willing they are to operate in no one’s best interests but their own. But, luckily, there are two different candidates now from which to choose. No contest.

It is time to select someone for council who has the interests of the city in mind and heart; someone whose ethics don’t come into question every time there is a decision to be made. Wouldn’t honesty and integrity be two far more desirable characteristics in a council member than underhandedness and a history of unethical choices? Please consider that before you vote.
