Bait and switch, Chicago politics

| June 29, 2017 4:00 AM

In the next several weeks four past mayors of Moses Lake will write letters to the editor. The subjects will be about the current city council and what direction it appears to be going the last two years. The recent letter by Dean Hankins sums up the bait and switch of two of the current council members. Two years ago Doug Sly called four members of the current and past council, part of the “Shadow Council,” referring to secret meetings, outside legal counsel, and vote rigging to obtain their agenda. One of that council was defeated soundly in the 2016 election but has filled again for 2018. Two other members are seeking to be elected instead of re-elected for 2018. This is an example of “Bait and Switch.” Those four were responsible for the debacle that resulted in the firing and re-hiring of the city manager. I know that one of the other mayors will address the costs of this decision to the citizens of Moses Lake.

In the upcoming election process it is important to “follow the money.” That refers to large amounts coming from Ephrata, Seattle and one of the local sections of city government. Red signs, on campaign signs, did nothing to protect one of the defeated council in 2016. We need to ask ourselves what is the agenda of these contributions and what affect it has on the city? Would it surprise you to know that one of the current council spent large amounts to run their campaign in 2015 for a $500 a month job? Figures are from the state Public Disclosure Commission.

We need elected officials who represent the citizens and not self-interest while conducting the business of the City of Moses Lake.
