CBHA Holds Relay for Life On-line Auction
In 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt began walking around a track in Tacoma for 24 hours. That year, he raised $27,000. Since that first lap, the Relay for Life movement has grown into a world-wide phenomenon. Most importantly, it has raised nearly $5 billion to fight cancer. CBHA is proud to be a part of that fight through our local fundraising efforts.
“After the success of last year’s online auction, we are excited to do it again this year,” Jill Baker, CBHA Relay for Life Team Captain said. “Our first auction began on Friday, June 16. We will be holding an auction starting every Friday at 5 p.m. that will run through 9 p.m. the following Monday for the next four weekends. Our last auction will begin on July 14.”
All the items up for bid will be posted online with a photo and details about it. To view items, “Like” the CBHA page at Facebook.com/ColumbiaBasinHealth. To place your bids, comment on the photo of the items you want with the price your bidding price and also put your e-mail address.
Baker said the winning bidders will be emailed an invoice Tuesday advising that they have won the item and the amount they bid for it. “Bidders will have until Wednesday at 5 p.m. to submit payment for their item through PayPal. If payment is not received at that time, an invoice will be sent to the next highest bidder. Successful bidders can pick up their items at CBHA. If desired, items can be shipped at the bidder’s expense.”
“Every week, we have a variety of different items up for grabs so there is something for everyone! There’s tickets for an upcoming Seattle Sounders game, a football signed by WSU head football coach, Mike Leach, and a John Deere 3 wheel tractor for the kids,” Baker said. “Also available will be packages to golf courses, tickets to the Pendleton Round-up, Silverwood passes and more. Some of our most popular food items from previous years are back, including a dessert once a month for the next year. We worked hard to find items that would interest everyone in the community.”
The donations for the auction come from a variety of sources. Each department at CBHA holds a fundraiser or donates an auction item.
“All of our employees enjoy being creative and coming up with ideas of what they can do to help make this event a success, Baker said. “We are also so grateful to the community for supporting this great cause by donating auction items and money. We couldn’t do this without all of your generosity.”
Relay for Life: Heart of the Basin will be held on Friday, July 21 at Lions Park, in Othello.
“CBHA will once again be there, marching behind our banner like we have done every year since Relay for Life fundraising efforts began in Othello,” Baker said. “All the money will be donated to the American Cancer Society to continue the fight against cancer.”
