Two-car collision takes life of a Mattawa man

A Mattawa man died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 24 about 14 miles west of Othello.

The Washington State Patrol reported Victor Martinez Ibarra, 36, of Mattawa was a passenger in a 2006 Honda Odyssey when a 1993 Buick Regal driven by Emilio Martinez Silva, 18, of Othello, reportedly struck it head-on. Both vehicles were totaled.

Martinez Ibarra died at the scene.

Martinez Silva and others involved in the collision were taken to Othello Community Hospital by ambulance for treatment. They were Ana Castro Analco, 33, of Othello, a passenger in the car that was reportedly struck, and Jesus Mendoza Salazar, 42, of Othello, the other driver.

According to the police report all persons involved were wearing seat belts, and drugs and or alcohol were involved.

Next of kin has been notified. The cause of accident is under investigation.
