Election switch is underhanded and unethical

| June 22, 2017 3:00 AM

There has been a robbery recently in Moses Lake where something belonging to all the citizens of this city was stolen.

The thieves are councilman Bill Ecret and Mayor Todd Voth.

Mr. Voth was originally running unopposed for re-election to the city council. But knowing Ecret was in danger of losing his seat, these bosom buddies, these partners in crime, waited until the last minute of the last day for election filings to steal your rights. They didn’t want you to know what they were doing.

Voth, thinking he can’t be beat, withdrew from his uncontested race and filed for Ecret’s seat against two new candidates. Ecret then filed for Voth’s seat, making Ecret the uncontested candidate. Neither of them is running for re-election, they are running for different positions than they were in before.

With this shuffle they have stolen the ability of this community to elect who they want to the city council. It is underhanded and unethical, but not illegal.

The people of Moses Lake need to let everyone know this is not how we want our leaders to act. We need to send a message not only to the people involved in this theft of your right, but also to future candidates for any city office that this underhanded manipulation of the election process in our city will not be tolerated.

This is not their election. It is your election, and you need to take back at least some control of the election process.
