Head-on crash claims Mattawa man near Othello

OTHELLO — A Mattawa man died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 24 about 14 miles west of Othello.

Victor Martinez Ibarra, 36, of Mattawa was a passenger in a 2006 Honda Odyssey when it was reportedly struck head-on by a 1993 Buick Regal driven by Emilio Martinez Silva, 18, of Othello. Both vehicles were totaled.

Martinez Ibarra died at the scene.

Martinez Silva and others involved in the collision were taken to Othello Community Hospital by ambulance for treatment. They were Ana Castro Analco, 33, of Othello, a passenger in the car that was reportedly struck, and Jesus Mendoza Salazar, 42, of Othello, the other driver.

All were reportedly wearing seat belts.

The patrol is investigating the collision’s cause.
