MOSES LAKE — The Walleyes were no match for the big bats of Wenatchee in a doubleheader sweep Monday night at Larson Field.

In its season-opener, Moses Lake scattered just two hits in a 12-1 loss. Wenatchee continued its offensive punch in the nightcap, winning 15-5.

Blake Pugh got the start for the Walleyes (0-2) in Game 1 and was solid through three innings. However, Wenatchee was able to break through with four runs in the fourth inning.

Pugh’s counterpart on the mound Colton Dyal helped his cause with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Dyal pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and was 3-for-4 with four RBI from the dish.

Wenatchee really put the game out of reach with six runs in the fifth inning. Seth Storlie tripled in two runs and Dyal added another RBI single in the frame.

Gabe Passey and Tre Spencer had one hit each for Moses Lake.

In the late game, Wenatchee jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning.

Walleyes starter Sawyer Jenks was tagged for 11 runs on nine hits in four innings.

Wenatchee led 8-0 before Moses Lake put up its first runs. In the fourth inning, Passey grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Spencer and Jenks had an RBI single.

Wenatchee opened up a 14-2 lead, but Moses Lake staved off the mercy rule with three runs in the fifth inning. Tre Ramirez scored on a bases-loaded walk, Matt Vasquez scored on a fielder’s choice and Spencer scored on a wild pitch to extend the game 14-5.
