Moses Lake announces new head volleyball coach

MOSES LAKE — Jennifer Gering was announced as the new head volleyball coach for Moses Lake High School, pending school board approval.

Gering, in her 12 years of coaching experience, helped the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos win back-to-back state championships in 2003 and 2004. Gering has made five total trips to the state tournament.

Gering graduated from Lind-Ritzville/Sprague High School, moving on to study at Eastern Washington University and Wichita State University.

Moses Lake volleyball finished 5-8 in 2016, reaching a Columbia Basin Big Nine play-in game.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline wins Scholastic Cup

RENTON — Almira/Coulee-Hartline accomplished the rare feat of winning the Scholastic Cup without winning a state championship this season.

However, the Warriors won academic championships in baseball, volleyball and boys wrestling.

The Scholastic Cup recognizes the top school in each classification for academic, athletic and sportsmanship excellence.

ACH finished runner-up in girls basketball and baseball, as well as a third-place finishes in boys basketball and volleyball.
