EPHRATA — In a rare meeting between two senior summer baseball clubs in the Columbia Basin, the River Dogs were able to best the Spuds two out of three times in a weekend series.

The River Dogs won Friday’s single game 3-0. Central Washington bounced back Saturday to win the opener 6-3, but lost the second game 8-1.

Columbia Basin starter Kaeden Murphy and Central Washington’s Cade Tunstall dueled from the bump Friday night. Both teams were held scoreless through four innings. The River Dogs scratched three runs across in the fifth inning.

“Defensively, we played a great game up until that inning,” Spuds head coach Robert Haensel said.

On Saturday, Zach Valdez hit a two-run double and Austin Valdez earned the save in the Spuds’ win. Starting pitcher Blake Sidwell went 5 1/3 innings.

“He (Sidwell) showcased a pretty good breaking ball,” Haensel said.

Austin Valdez hit a solo home run in the first inning of Game 2, but Columbia Basin raced out to a 5-1 advantage after two innings.

Walleyes get first win

SPOKANE — Moses Lake ended its North Side Clash scheduled with a win against the Spokane Expos 3-2.

Previously, the Walleyes lost their first three games: 5-2 against Chewelah, 4-0 against Mt. Spokane and 14-2 against Coeur d’Alene.

Against the Expos, Tre Ramirez scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly ball by Matt Vasquez. Vasquez drove in all three of the Walleyes’ run.

Sun Devils win once in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA — The Sun Devils finished 1-2 at the Walla Walla Invitational.
