WILSON CREEK — The fifth annual Little Big Show, Wilson Creek’s yearly antique car and truck show, is coming to town this weekend.

“Last year we had 120 cars, but this year we expect to have close to 200,” said show organizer Nicholas Odorizzi.

Odorizzi, who has been organizing the show for the last two years, said Wilson Creek has cleaned itself up for the show, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday. The fire department kicks off the day by serving breakfast at 7 a.m.

“This is a pretty big deal for the town, our population doubles that day. We’ve cleaned the streets and painted some things that needed painting,” he said.

While attendance is free, the cost to enter a vehicle in the show is $15, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Tri-Communities Chamber of Commerce, which promotes business in Wilson Creek, Marlin, and Stratford.

“We’d like to build a float and promote the area regionally,” Odorizzi said.

There will be trophies for categories of cars, vendors in the park, a barbecue lunch served by the town’s 4-H Club, and “Valve Cover” races.

“It’s like the Pinewood Derby, only made with car parts,” he said.

The show was started five years ago by Debbie Moore, owner of the Harvest Moon Saloon, who decided after three years she no longer wanted the hassle of organizing a car show. Odorizzi picked it up last year on short notice, and is glad he’s had more time to make it work this year.

“I had a month to do it last year, but our list of sponsors this year is getting pretty big,” he said.

Odorizzi, who does computer and technical support for the Warden Creek School, is himself a classic car enthusiast, and will be entering his own 1959 Chevrolet Impala in the show.

“I’m into classic cars, and I live in town, and I can’t let this go,” Odorizzi said of the show.
