Columbia Basin roundup: 9 Vikings sign letters of intent

MOSES LAKE — A multitude of Big Bend sophomores decided where to continue their schooling and collegiate baseball careers on Tuesday.

Justin DeHoog, Auggie Francis, Kaleb Whitlock, Parker Stohr, Jacob Lundin, Josh Kallstrom, Nathan Ball, Seth Reisbeck and Colin Tate all signed national letters of intent to various institutions.

DeHoog, Francis and Whitlock will all attend New Mexico Highlands University.

DeHoog, an Ephrata native, was an outfielder that had a batting average of .270 and hit three home runs. Francis, another outfielder, led the Vikings with six home runs and had 31 RBI. Whitlock appeared in 13 games, primarily in a relief role, and recorded a 3-0 record with 23 strikeouts.

The Cowboys compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and finished 19-27 overall in 2017.

Pitchers Stohr and Lundin will play for Mayville State University and University of Northwestern Ohio, respectively. Stohr finished 2017 with a 3.00 earned run average and 26 strikeouts. Lundin was a versatile pitcher for the Vikings, starting two games as well as earning a save.

Ephrata native Josh Kallstrom, who chose Oregon Tech, hit .348 and had 39 RBI. At first base, Kallstrom committed only two errors and was selected to the NWAC Eastern Region's All-Conference Second Team.

Moses Lake High School graduate Ball and Reisbeck are headed to William Penn University.

Ball caught 158.2 innings and was charged with only one error. Ball homered twice and had 15 RBI. Reisbeck, Big Bend's third baseman, hit .331 in 130 at-bats.

Pitcher Tate will attend Marian University; Tate struck out one batter in three appearances.

Apple Valley 10-8, Moses Lake 0-0

WENATCHEE — Moses Lake was swept on the road by the Apple Valley Blues 10-0 and 8-0.

Tre Spencer recorded Moses Lake's lone hit in the opener. Apple Valley pulled away with a seven-run third inning.

Seth Storlie went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Blues.

Shaky defense doomed the Walleyes in the night cap. Moses Lake committed seven errors as Apple Valley only earned three of its eight runs.

Sawyer Jenks was 2-for-3.
