Graduations take center stage this weekend

COLUMBIA BASIN — Caps and gowns, “Pomp and Circumstance,” speeches, tears, pictures, students showing off that brand-new diploma – it’s graduation season.

High school ends for the class of 2017 in graduation ceremonies Friday and Saturday at Moses Lake High School, in Warden, Ephrata, Othello, Wilson Creek and at Moses Lake Christian Academy. Seniors will graduate June 9 in Quincy and June 10 in Soap Lake.

Students from three schools, Othello, Warden and Ephrata, graduate Friday.

The ceremony for the Othello High School class of 2017 is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Huskie Stadium, behind the high school. About 225 seniors will receive diplomas. Co-valedictorians Victor Maria and Shalyn Kent are the speakers.

Warden High School seniors will make the last walk of high school at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Information on student speakers was not available at press time.

Graduation ceremonies for the Ephrata High School class of 2017 are scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Field, behind the high school. About 166 students will receive diplomas. Mikayla Wood, Erynn Brown and Alec Lobe are the student speakers.

About 450 seniors will graduate from Moses Lake High School at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lions Field, behind Frontier Middle School. Amanda Harder is the class of 2017’s honor speaker and Aditya Sharma is the senior speaker.

Seven seniors will make the graduation walk at Wilson Creek High School at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Wilson Creek school gym. Chance Garrett is the valedictorian and Tyler Byse is the salutatorian.

Graduation ceremonies for the seven seniors at Moses Lake Christian Academy will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Moses Lake Civic Center auditorium. Daniel Timofeyev will be the commencement speaker.

Quincy High School seniors will graduate at 7 p.m. June 9 at Jaycee Stadium, across the street from QHS. The class of 2017 has two valedictorians, Anyssa Ayala and Loran Goninan; Sebastian Gomez is the salutatorian.

Graduation ceremonies for Soap Lake High School are scheduled for 2 p.m. June 10 in the high school/middle school gym. About 36 students will graduate. Jackson Wilks is the valedictorian and Maryna Obzhylova is the salutatorian.
