BEVERLY — A semi-truck collision and subsequent fuel leak shut down state Route 243 near Beverly for over 10 hours on Wednesday.

About 6:35 a.m. Danny Sorensen, 66, of Wichita, Kan., was driving a 2016 Peterbilt semi-truck with a trailer south on state Route 243, about 4 miles north of Beverly, when he reportedly went off the road. The semi ran into a dirt embankment and came to a rest in the southbound ditch, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Sorenson was injured and transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. SR-243 was closed between state Route 26 and Beverly-Burke Road for about 11 hours, as the Department of Ecology responded to the area to deal with a 150-gallon fuel leak.

The patrol reports the cause of the collision was Sorenson driving while distracted. Sorenson was cited for driving with his wheels off of the road.
